Police say a joint forces investigation has resulted in the arrests of three men who allegedly attempted to purchase four firearms.

Hamilton police say that in late May 2020, the OPP-led Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit launched a joint firearms importation investigation with the US Department of Homeland Security and the Hamilton Police Service Gangs and Weapons Enforcement Unit.

The purpose of the investigation was to target illegal firearm sales in the Hamilton area.

Police say that on Friday, June 5, 2020, officers set up surveillance of the suspects at a commercial property near the intersection of Barton Street East and Kenilworth Avenue North. As the alleged firearms deal unfolded, officers arrested the suspect who made the purchase.

Police say his alleged accomplices, who were operating a motor vehicle in the immediate area, observed the arrest and attempted to flee. Police say they pursued the vehicle, which ended up on the front lawn of a residence near Vansitmart Avenue and Kenilworth Avenue North. The occupants were subsequently arrested.

Police allege officers located a loaded Glock handgun, cash and a small amount of fentanyl inside the vehicle.

Police arrested 20-year-old Hamilton man Trenton Dam, 20-year-old St. Catharines man Terrell Cooper and 19-year-old Stoney Creek man Ahmed Issak-Hussein.

They are facing several firearm-related and other criminal charges.

The accused suspects all appeared in court on Saturday, June 6, 2020.
