A 76-year-old man from Hamilton has been charged today (Aug. 25) for allegedly committing fraud at several small businesses in Toronto.

Toronto Police Service (TPS) says that the individual attended several small businesses throughout Toronto under the pretext of assisting them by obtaining a line of credit.

“The man would ask the business to provide a deposit as a part of an administrative fee and then stopped communicating with them once the money was deposited,” TPS said in a press release.

The man, now identified as Alexander Polychronopoulos, faces three counts of fraud under $5,000 and three counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

Investigators say that there may be more victims. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 416-808-3107.

Polychronopoulos is set to appear in court on Sept. 14 at 2:30 p.m.
