Police say a 43-year-old Hamilton man is charged with robbery following a carjacking at gas station on the East Mountain on Wednesday (April 22).

Shortly after 11:00 p.m., police say that two women stopped at a local gas station on Fennel Avenue East and Glenford Avenue.

One of the women was outside filling up a jerry can when she reportedly saw a man enter the front passenger seat of their car and begin struggling with the driver.

The woman outside of the car tried opening the locked doors to help the driver who was fighting with the assailant as he tried to put the car in drive.

The driver was able to get out of the car before the man took off in it.

The man was last seen driving westbound on Fennell Avenue East in the car and the two victims did not require any medical attention, police say.

Police were able to identify the suspect an hour later when they responded to a report of a person pulling an apartment fire alarm in the area of Mohawk Road East and Moxley Drive.
