Hamilton man arrested in connection to assault on woman in north end: Police

Hamilton Police have arrested a 30-year-old man believed to have assaulted a woman at a home in the city’s North end early Friday (May 1) morning.

Shortly before 2:00 a.m., Hamilton Police say they were called to a residence in the area of Munroe Street and Hillyard Street for reports of an assault.

The victim, a 26-year-old woman had left the residence and the suspect was believed to be inside.

Police say they learned there was a possibility a firearm was involved in the incident and then called in tactical officers and crisis negotiators.

Shortly after 7: 00 a.m., officers say they established a verbal connection with the suspect and a short time later he voluntarily exited the residence without incident.

The man, who is a resident of Hamilton, was taken into police custody and later released.

The victim received minor injuries from the incident but did not require medical treatment.

Through continued investigation, police determined a firearm was not involved in the incident.

He is scheduled to have his matter addressed at the John Sopinka Courthouse on Thursday, July 2, 2020, and he faces several charges at that time:

  • Assault
  • Utter threats
  • Fail to comply probation
