An employee at a Hamilton grocery store has tested positive for COVID-19, according to an announcement posted on the store’s Facebook page.

On Monday (April 13), Frank’s No Frills, located on Rymal near Upper Sherman, announced that they had closed the store to perform a thorough cleaning after the staff member “recently tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19.”

The Facebook notice also made mention of the fact that the employee in question had not been in the store since last Thursday (April 9) and was “not in the store while exhibiting symptoms.”

The company also said that any staff members who worked closely with the sickened employee have been asked to self-isolate and monitor for symptoms of the virus.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we’re notifying customers who recently transacted at this store,” a notice to shoppers says.

“We have a number of protocols in place at the store-level, including daily sanitization and social distancing practices to minimize the risk of exposure to our customers and team members,” they said.

Going forward, Frank’s No Frills said they are working with local Public Health to minimize the risk of other becoming infected.

The store was expected to reopen Tuesday (April 14).

Many commenters on the post were concerned about whether or not they were at risk, especially since they, or someone they love, had patronized the store recently.

“What about people that shopped recently my question is why was this store not shut down sooner it was open on Saturday?” wrote one Facebook user.

“Are you able to tell us if this team member was a cashier or stocked shelves etc? My mom has been in here a few times over the last few weeks,” questioned another.
