Hamilton Forge FC forward called to Canadian national squad

Canada Soccer announced Friday that Forge FC midfielder Tristan Borges has been named to the Men’s National Team roster for a 12-day camp running Jan 4 to 16 in Irvine, California that includes three International Friendly’s against Barbados and Iceland.

It is always an honour to be given the opportunity to represent your country and I am proud to get this call up.” said Tristan Borges, Forge FC midfielder. “I am excited to represent Forge FC at the national level and to keep promoting the CPL for the future. This wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of the CPL and Forge FC staff throughout the 2019 season.”

Borges, 21, made 27 appearances for Forge FC in 2019, finishing first in the CPL with 13 goals, and tied for first in the league with five assists. The 5-7 midfielder finished the year being crowned a 2019 Canadian Premier League Champion, 2019 Player of the Year, Best U-21 Canadian Player of the Year and earning the CPL’s Golden Boot.

Borges has represented Canada at the youth international level, including two major CONCACAF championship tournaments. In three appearances at the 2017 Men’s Under-20 Championship in San Jose, Costa Rica, Borges registered one assist and posted one goal in six matches at the 2015 Men’s Under-17 Championship in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
