Hamilton cyclist arrested on drug and weapons charges

Hamilton Police say a 21-year-old cyclist was arrested Wednesday morning on drug and weapons charges.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m., police say they observed a cyclist travelling eastbound on Campbell Ave approaching Rosslyn Ave.

The bicycle allegedly did not have an operating lighting system which would be in violation of the Highway Traffic Act.

A traffic stop was conducted by police when the man allegedly failed to follow police instructions and became “evasive in his responses”.

Police say a search led to the discovery of illicit drugs and prohibited weapons.

A 21-year-old Hamilton man is scheduled to appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse later Wednesday to answer to several criminal charges.

SEIZED

  • Prohibited weapon – spring-loaded knife
  • Prohibited weapon – brass knuckles
  • Prohibited weapon – brass knuckles with knife attached

Undisclosed amount of the following drugs:

  • Psilocybin mushrooms
  • Crystal Methamphetamine
  • Tylenol 3 with Codeine
  • Vyvanse 50 mg capsules

CHARGES

  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon X3
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking X2 (Methamphetamine, Psilocybin)
  • Possession of controlled substance – Tylenol with Codeine
  • Fail to comply probation X2
