Hamilton bus fares will increase five cents starting Sept. 1, rising to $3.30 for a single ride without Presto.
The City of Hamilton’s Transit Division (HSR) cited the fare hike as part of its 10-year transit strategy to improve the service.
“These changes will ensure HSR continues to accommodate growth, enhance connectivity and the customer experience while improving Hamilton’s transit network,” HSR announced on its website.
Meanwhile, Metrolinx announced today that starting Aug. 8, the cost of Presto cards will be reduced from $6 to $4.
Changes for the HSR fall 2023 schedule include:
- Routes 10 B-Line and 20 A-Line will operate seven-day express services with the addition of all-day Sunday express services for these two routes
- Route 5 is extending to King and Highway 8 and Mount Albion Loop
- Connections will be improved to and from Stoney Creek by extending route 55 to Winona Crossing and route 55A to the Stoney Creek Municipal Service Center. Click here to see the fall 2023 map for the Stoney Creek service changes.
The City said more information will be provided in coming weeks.
Children five and under can ride for free. Children aged six to 12 years old ride free with a Presto card. Currently, single rides for adults with a Presto card is $2.70 and cash fare is $3.25.
