Two people have been charged following a gunpoint carjacking in Hamilton this morning.

A white Jeep Cherokee was driving erratically near Queenston Rd. and Donn Ave. in Stoney Creek around 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 13. Hamilton Police officers soon responded to the area, but the driver had motored about two kilometres southwest to King St. and Battlefield Dr.

At this intersection, police say, the man was spotted with a gun. Investigators allege he tried to steal a second car, but police managed to catch up to him before he could. Both the driver and a female passenger were arrested peacefully.

The driver, 20, faces seven charges including dangerous driving, unauthorized possession of a firearm, fleeing police, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, prohibited firearm possession, robbery and mischief under $5,000.

The passenger, also 20, is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Both accused are still in police custody. Anyone with information can call police at (905) 546-2907, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477
