A car found in Hamilton has been connected to the fatal shooting of a man in Toronto.

Shots rang out shortly after 3 p.m. on Feb. 17 near Jane St. and Driftwood Ave. in North York. One man was struck and found injured on scene. Paramedics rushed him to hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

A stolen black Acura RDX associated with the shooting was also linked to another attack the previous day in which another victim, 16, was injured. The car was discovered in Hamilton by Feb. 20. Investigators also learned of a suspect. They describe him as a thin Black man between 18 and 25 years old. He was wearing a black coat, a white hoodie, black pants, black shoes, a black face covering and possibly a white surgical mask.

Police later identified the victim as Adu Boakye, 39 of Ghana, a father of four. In a press conference on Feb. 20, police said they could find no link between Boakye, the 16-year-old or the shooters according to Det. Phillip Campbell. Both victims were innocently “going about his business,” Campbell said.

Investigators have stepped up their presence in the area after the shootings. They have a command centre on site and plan to be there for the next ten days or so.
