Winter marches ever closer with a freezing rain storm set to strike Hamilton this afternoon (Nov. 21).

According to Environment Canada, Freezing rain will hit the city around noon. The rainfall is expected to be between 10 to 15 mm. Wind is set to blow from the southeast at 20 km/h while occasionally gusting to 40 km/h.

They expect the rain to cause 1 to 2 millimetres of ice build-up, especially over higher terrain on the Niagara Escarpment. However, the freezing rain is expected to be short-lived and end sometime after noon.

Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing shortly thereafter though roads will remain slippery as rain will continue. “Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions,” Environment Canada advised.

The chance of rain will decrease to 60 per cent around 3 a.m. However, they may continue well into Wednesday.
