Forget Brad and Jen -- Hamilton gets shout out at SAG Awards
Sunday’s (Jan. 19) Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards show opened up with a little nod to Hamilton.
In an opening sequence, actor Eugene Levy was among other actors telling audiences about how they became a performer.
Levy starts out his lengthy story with a shoutout to his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and calls it the ‘Pittsburgh of the North.’

The funny man, and his son Daniel — both stars of the incredibly popular Canadian comedy Schitt’s Creek — then riff on one another as the elder Levy’s origin story cuts off the always lovable Tom Hanks.
The father-son duo then took the stage to kick off the prestigious award show, a highlight of the Hollywood awards season.
Neither Levy took home a trophy Sunday night, but people are abuzz with our city’s brief brush with the limelight — even more than they are about Brad and Jen.
“As someone who ALSO grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada…yes,” tweeted resident Monica Molinaro in response to Levy’s shoutout. “But also, #hamont represent!”
“Eugene Levy right out of the gates with ‘I grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada’ at the #SAGAwards made me weepy and proud,” tweeted Maria Karambelas.
Tourism Hamilton retweeted a video of the show’s opening, writing “Shout out to #HamOnt legend @Realeugenelevy for his @SAGawards speech (and for mentioning his hometown) #pittsburghofthenorth.”
Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger also got in on the action by retweeting the video with the hashtag #loveyourcity.
