Forcible confinement investigation leads Hamilton Police to drugs, weapon

A Hamilton man is facing a slew of charges after police seized drugs and a loaded firearm while they were investigating reports of a man being held against his will in the city’s North End.
A Hamilton man is facing a slew of charges after police seized drugs and a loaded firearm while they were investigating reports of a man being held against his will in the city’s North End.
On Sunday (March 29) shortly 12:00 p.m., Hamilton Police say they received information that a man was being held against his will at a residence in the area of Sherman Avenue North and Barton Street East.
Police say they immediately responded and entered the residence for the safety of a potential victim.
Once inside, police located a man with minor injuries.
Another man was also located in the residence and arrested. He was found to be in possession of a substance believed to be Heroin.
Police say they were eventually granted a search warrant for the residence and it was executed at 11:30 p.m.
At that time, they say they seized a loaded handgun and a quantity of Heroin and Fentanyl mix worth approximately $60,000.
A 45-year-old Hamilton man will have his matter addressed at the John Sopinka Courthouse Monday. He is charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon
- Point Firearm x 2
- Forcible Confinement
- Prohibited Firearm – loaded
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Careless Storage
- Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Possession Contrary to Order x 8
- Possession of Heroin for the purpose of trafficking
