There was evidence of an explosion at a house fire in Hamilton, which caused $1,000,000 in damages.

The Hamilton Fire Department got a call about a blaze at 2136 Safari Rd. shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 28. When fire crews arrived, “they were faced with a fully involved basement fire,” Hamilton Fire reported in a statement to Insauga.

The fire had spread to the first and second floors of the home.

“Crews were able to extinguish the fire but not before substantial damage impacted the home,” Hamilton Fire wrote in their statement.

As a result of the damage, the city’s Building Department has been called in to inspect the home and ensure it’s still stable. The family was able to evacuate and are staying with family. No one was injured in the fire.

The Hamilton Fire investigation discovered evidence of an explosion prior to their arrival. As such the Ontario Fire Marshall has been contacted to pursue their own investigation.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
