Hamilton residents who want the City to hear their two cents on the 2024 budget have until noon next Monday to have their name added to the speaker’s list for the January 16 meeting – this Friday if a video submission is requested.

Applications to speak virtually, in person or to provide a written delegation for the January 16 General Issues Committee meeting are due January 15.

Last year’s $1.07 billion budget was approved in late March with a 5.8 per cent increase to local ratepayers. Hamilton taxpayers were looking at double digit increases in 2024 – thanks in part to a record police services budget ask of $213 million ($20 million more than last year) and an expected ten per cent jump in water bills – but budget talks held last month have reduced the overall hit substantially.
