The City of Hamilton is investigating a “cybersecurity incident” currently affecting their IT systems.

“Experts are actively responding to the incident to determine the cause and potential impacts,” the city wrote, “Our priority is to safeguard the integrity of our systems and protect any sensitive or private information.”

The city did not specify the nature of the incident and has not confirmed if any data has been leaked. The incident has compromised some functions of Hamilton Street Railway.

HSR said the buses are still running, but drivers cannot use their computerized systems. This includes the HSR Now app and the stop announcement voice. However, the myRide system in Waterdown and DARTS specialized busses remain operational.

“We want to assure the community that we are taking this matter seriously and are collaborating closely with cybersecurity experts and relevant authorities to address the issue as quickly and effectively as possible,” they said.

The city concluded by saying, “We understand the importance of transparency and will provide updates as new information becomes available. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this incident. The City remains committed to protecting the privacy and security of our community while managing impacts to City service levels.”
