COVID-19 forces closure of iconic Hamilton sub shop
After 40 years in business, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the closure of a favourite Hamilton sub shop.
Atlantic Submarine announced last week that they would be closing their doors after four decades of serving the community.
The iconic blue sub shop at King and Sherman has been Hamilton’s go-to for classic submarine sandwiches for generations. Their gyros have also been considered among some to be the best in the city for years.
The Facebook post announcing their closure showed the shop’s final sign change and expressed their appreciation for the community’s support over their long history.
“We would like to thank all of Hamilton for all of your love and support through 40 years of business,” the post said.
“We have decided to close our doors permanently due to covid-19.”
Many on Facebook shared their dismay at the closure and took the opportunity to reminisce about happier times at Atlantic.
“Came here as often as I could been coming here since I was kid, summers wont be the same without an Atlantic sub on the beach,” wrote one Facebook user.
Another wrote: “Cherry sundaes when I attended Scott Park over thirty years ago. Always thought this place looked like a movie set.”
Atlantic is one of several small businesses to recently announce their closure in the wake of the pandemic, which has seen the city practically come to a standstill in the last three months.
