Couple arrested on East Hamilton mountain face drug trafficking charges

A Hamilton couple was arrested Wednesday (Feb. 19) after a lengthy drug investigation on the East Hamilton Mountain. The pair is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

After receiving information about illegal drug activity on the Hamilton Mountain, members of the Hamilton Police Gangs and Weapons Enforcement Unit commenced an investigation focusing on a mountain residence and its occupants.

On Wednesday, a search warrant was submitted to the courts. The warrant was granted the same day for a home in the area of the Red Hill Valley Expressway and Mud Street West as well as two associated vehicles.

Shortly after 12:00 p.m., a man related to the identified residence was observed operating a vehicle in the area of Stone Church Road and Upper Ottawa Street.

With assistance from the Emergency Response Unit he was arrested without incident and taken into police custody.

While conducting the arrest procedure, police located a mixture of fentanyl and heroin. A short time later, a woman related to the identified residence returned and she was arrested without incident.

During the execution of the warrant, police located firearms, illicit drugs and other evidence to support the trafficking of illicit drugs, police say. All items were seized as evidence and lodged for court proceedings.

A 29-year-old Hamilton man and 33-year-old Hamilton woman are scheduled to appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse to answer to several criminal charges.

Police seized:

  • Handgun X2 – Glock
  • Ammunition
  • Cocaine – Street value $3910
  • Fentanyl- Street value $4800
  • Hydromorphone pills – Street value $280
  • Substance used to cut/process cocaine
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Undisclosed amount of Canadian Currency

The Hamilton man faces the following charges:

  • Possession of controlled substance for trafficking – Fentanyl/Heroin
  • Possession of controlled substance for trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession contrary to court order X3
  • Possession contrary to prohibition order x 2
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5000
  • Possession of proceeds of crime over $5000
  • Several firearms-related charges

The woman from Hamilton faces the following charges:

  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5000
  • Possession of proceeds of crime over $5000
  • Possession of controlled substance for trafficking – Cocaine
  • Several firearms-related charges
