After an eventful 11 years, one of Hamilton’s long-standing entertainment venues is shutting its doors for good.

This Ain’t Hollywood, located at the intersection of James and Murray, announced its imminent closure in a statement today (Sunday, May 3).

The venue owners say the building has been sold after being on the market for a period of time, and cited several reasons for the closure, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Operating a live music venue tosses out a lot of challenges and risks,” the owners said.

“While the industry and infrastructure is changing, we felt that it was a proper time for our departure. The COVID-19 pandemic also brought a lot of uncertainties for the near future.”

The closing date for the sale of the building is Tuesday, August 4th.

While This Ain’t Hollywood’s final day of business has yet to be determined, the owners say they’ll keep the community informed and have promised some unforgettable farewell shows to be held in the venue’s final days.

This Ain’t Hollywood took the opportunity to thank the community and all of its staff for their help over the years.

“Our goal on day one was to open a neighbourhood friendly bar offering Hamilton a variety of music, and art. While we are saddened by the end of this era, we look upon the last 11 years as a truly special chapter in Hamilton’s illustrious musical story,” they said.

“There will never be another This Ain’t Hollywood.”
