Classes resume at East Hamilton school following small fire

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board said Thursday (March 5) that students and staff from Viscount Montgomery were evacuated to nearby St. Eugene’s after the fire department was called to the school in the morning.
There was a localized fire in an area of the school, located on Lucerne Avenue in the city’s East End, and it has been extinguished, the board said in an alert posted to their website.
The Fire Department has provided the all-clear.
Students and staff have returned and all operations at the school have resumed.
A letter is being shared with the school community and a message will be shared with parents Thursday evening via phone through School Messenger.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire has not been disclosed.
