In a Tweet that has now gone viral, a video shows a reported McMaster student disrupting a demonstration where some students were standing in solidarity with Hong Kong pro-democracy protestors.

The video, posted earlier this week, shows a man tearing up one of the pro-democracy signs and shoving a demonstrator.

There have been a number of rallies in recent weeks on campus as a show of solidarity with the embattled protestors in Hong Kong. In September, a student group with links to Beijing was even banned from McMaster.

The university’s student newspaper, The Silhouette, reported that security services arrived shortly after the video was taken and the scene was dispersed.

There is no information as to what repercussions if any, the student who interrupted the peaceful protest will face.

Since June, millions in Hong Kong have taken to the streets to protest against proposals to allow extradition to mainland China.

Critics feared this could undermine the city’s judicial independence and endanger dissidents.

The controversial bill has since been withdrawn but protests persist.

Violent clashes have erupted between protestors and security forces which has led to a number of deaths.
