A teenager has been arrested and three other suspects remain at large after a carjacking in Hamilton last evening.
A black Lincoln Navigator SUV was driving near Garth St. and Twenty Rd. shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 29. Suddenly, a damaged white Mercedes veered into the Lincoln’s way, forcing it to stop. Four people stormed out of the Mercedes and surrounded the Lincoln.
The quartet assaulted the people in the Lincoln and pulled them out of the car. They then fled the area in the southside of the city and abandoned the Mercedes, according to Hamilton Police. The victims were all injured in the carjacking, though not seriously. Investigators soon found the Lincoln likewise abandoned. However, police did not specify where they found it.
Later, investigators arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of a robbery while armed with a gun. The teen faces 10 charges including five for armed robbery, three for breach of probation and two for failure to comply with a youth sentence.
Police said they expect he will face more charges as the investigation continues. He remains in custody until a bail hearing. His identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Another three suspects remain unidentified and at large. Police have asked anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the carjacking to come forward. Anyone with information can call police at 905-546-2991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
