Back-to-back assaults with a weapon plague the Hamilton area

Police are grappling with a second assault with a weapon incident in Hamilton which left a victim with stab wounds.

On Friday (Dec. 1) around 5 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to a plaza at 65 Mall Road after receiving information of an alleged stabbing.

Police say, they located a man suffering from a wound to his leg, believed to be caused by an edged weapon.

The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers have not released the victim’s name, age, or place of residence to the public.

Following the investigation, police arrested and charged an 18-year-old man.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the suspect or victim were known to each other.

The accused faces two charges of assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause death.

Investigators believe the assault was targeted.

The suspect’s name will not be released at this time, as the information has not been sworn to before the courts, police say.

A similar incident occurred hours later on Stoney Creek Mountain near Concession Street and East 34th Street. Police found a 24-year-old man with stab wounds to his back and right side of his body, also believed to be inflicted by an edged weapon.

Investigators have not confirmed if the two incidents are related.
