Alexander La Hamilton suspect

A man police consider “armed and dangerous” is wanted in Hamilton after a woman was attacked in her apartment building.

According to Hamilton Police, two armed men went to 175 Hunter Street West, an apartment building by Queen Street and Highway 8 downtown. Operators received numerous 911 calls reporting the pair were trying to break into an apartment.

While they tried to force entry, callers reported a woman was also in the hall “screaming and covered in blood.”

When police arrived, they found the woman, in her 40’s, with a major cut on her forehead. Police believe the men pistol-whipped the woman, causing the gash. First responders rushed her to hospital for treatment. Her wounds were serious, but not life-threatening. She’s since been discharged.

During the attempted break-in a neighbour in her 70’s tried to intervene to help the first victim. The men reportedly stole this second woman’s cell phone and caused a minor injury in doing so.

The two men then ran from the apartment building. The attack remains under investigation though police have identified a suspect.

Alexander La, 23 of Hamilton, is wanted on charges of;

  • robbery with a firearm
  • assault with a weapon
  • forcible confinement
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • possession of a firearm contrary to order, and
  • two counts of failure to comply with probation

Police believe La is armed and dangerous. They advise anyone who encounters him to contact 911 immediately. Investigators have yet to identify a second suspect.
