While some might be sad to wave goodbye to summer, there are a lot of autumn festivities on the horizon to look forward to, including the family-friendly Apple Festival in Hamilton.
On Sept. 23, residents can welcome the fall with a pancake breakfast, apple-themed games and tons of food at Battlefield Park in Stoney Creek (77 King St. W.).
Event organizers say the festival, which kicks off at 9 a.m., is geared toward everyone and is ideal for families with small children.
As for what to expect, organizers say attendees can play a range of apple-themed games (apple bingo, tic-tac-toe, ring toss, bean bag toss and more). There will also be take-home crafts, face painting, apples (of course), and apple treats (including apple pie by the slice, apple cider, apple butter, fudge apples, candy apples, and more).
Other Hamilton Civic Museums will also be represented with interactive demonstrations, including heritage cooking over an open fire.
Organizers also say they’ll be giving away apple prizes for the games and will have apples from Puddicombe Estates by the basket for sale in a souvenir Jackson’s Farm Market basket.
Those who want to check out the museum should note that both the museum and monument will be open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tours of the museum will be free.
The event is free to attend, but attendees can expect a $1 charge for tickets to participate in the games and crafts that will be within a fenced area.
