A protest is currently causing delays in Hamilton.

The protest, which is in support of the #DefundThePolice movement has blocked off Main Street West at Caroline Street near Hamilton City Hall.

This is the second protest that has occurred in the GTA since the death of 62-year-old Ejaz Choudry from Mississauga, who was killed during an encounter with Peel Regional Police (PRP) on Saturday (June 20).

Choudry’s family alleges that PRP officers used excessive force when they responded to a mental health crisis, and shot Choudry, who was in the midst of a schizophrenic episode.

Further, a video that surfaced this past weekend drew the ire of many Oakville residents, as it depicted a Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) officer allegedly assaulting a civilian while several other HRPS officers stood nearby.
