Fans of popular modern fiction rejoice! An acclaimed author is holding a lecture in Hamilton soon.

The Griffin House National Historic Site recently announced that residents are welcome to attend a lecture by internationally renowned author Lawrence Hill, who will be speaking about Faction: Merging History and Fiction in The Book of Negroes and The Illegal at the Ancaster Old Town Hall (310 Wilson St. E.) on Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 7 to 9 pm.

A book-signing and refreshments are included in the per-person cost of $25 – pre-registration is required.

Hill is the author of ten books, including The Illegal and The Book of Negroes. He is also the winner of various awards including the Governor General’s History Award, Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, and CBC Radio’s Canada Reads.

Hill holds honorary doctorates from six Canadian universities, is a Member of the Order of Canada and is an inductee of Canada’s Walk of Fame.

“But I have long loved the written word. And come to see in it the power of the sleeping lion. This is my name. This is who I am. This is how I got here. In the absence of an audience I will write down my story so that it waits like a restful beast with lungs and heart beating,” Lawrence Hill has been quoted as saying.
