Once again, Hamilton Police have shut down illegal psilocybin or magic mushroom businesses.

This time police say they have permanently closed the doors on two illegal psilocybin businesses that were the subject of previous police investigations.

In July, police shut down two shops selling the illegal drugs, and today (Oct. 6) the same two shops — The Mushroom Cabinet, 1459 Main St. E., and Shroomyz, 1155 King St. E. —were closed again, Hamilton Police said in a press release.

This time, in cooperation from landlords, the locks have been changed and Hamilton Police installed signage indicating entry could result in break and enter or other charges.

Police seized 1.3 kilograms of dried psilocybin, 33 bottles containing 20 capsules of psilocybin in each (660 capsules total), 30 psilocybin chocolate bars, and 25 psilocybin chocolate squares from the Mushroom Cabinet.

In total, Hamilton Police seized 9.71 kilograms of dried psilocybin with a street value of $97,100.

A third store, Shroom Godz, opened yesterday directly across the street from the Mushroom Cabinet.

Police told the owner of Shroom Godz of the recent shut downs of the two neighbouring businesses and the owner decided to close, police said.

Hamilton Police remind the public that psilocybin remains a schedule III drug and a restricted substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. Psilocybin is illegal to possess and at this time, there are no legal licensed options available.
