2 arrested, 1 man wanted after alleged home invasion and assault: Hamilton police

Hamilton Police Service (HPS) arrested two suspects and are searching for a third after a home invasion in the area of Garth St and West 5th in Hamilton that HPS said was targeted.

Hamilton Police Service (HPS) arrested two suspects and are searching for a third after a home invasion in the area of Garth St and West 5th in Hamilton that HPS said was targeted.

On Jan 21, shortly after 9:00 a.m., police say two males entered the victim’s home and confronted him.

“An argument ensued, resulting in one of the two suspects brandishing what was believed to be a firearm. The homeowner received minor injuries when he was struck over the head with the weapon, as well as sprayed in the face with pepper spray,” said HPS in an official statement.

Police said the two alleged assailants fled to a waiting car driven by a third suspect, with property belonging to the homeowner.

Officers said they located the vehicle at an “east end address” and the vehicle and home associated with the suspects were secured, while search warrants were prepared. 

Police located two of the assailants inside the home, who have since been charged with the following: 

James Murphy, 32-years-old of Hamilton

  • Robbery
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Administer Noxious Substance
  • Breach of Probation
  • Possession of Firearm Contrary to Order

Carly Crease, 27-years-old of Hamilton

  • Robbery

A search of the home located the firearm, which is believed to be an imitation. Police are seeking the assistance of the public in locating the third suspect in this matter:

Joshua Benoit, 28-years-old of Burlington

He is wanted for the following:

  • Robbery
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Breach of Probation
  • Possession of Firearm Contrary to Order
