The 14-year-old accused of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Devan Selvey is due back in court Thursday.
On Oct. 7, 2019, Hamilton police say Selvay was killed as a result of a stab wound suffered outside of Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in the city’s east end. It is believed that the 14-year-old accused is the one who wielded the knife as a number of bystanders bore witness—including the victim’s mother.

Initially, an 18-year-old was also charged with murder but the charged were reduced. The man is now facing charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, and administering a noxious thing.
The named of those charged cannot be released under the rules of a publication ban.
Three weeks from the day that Devan Selvey was murdered, the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) voted unanimously to establish an independent panel to address the issue of bullying in HWDSB schools.
